Kate Smith's work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Matts Gallery and MOCO in London. Group exhibitions include installations at the Chisenhale Gallery and CCA Glasgow, as well as international shows in Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Canada and France. She has also participated in a number of unique projects, including an exhibition curated by Virginia Nimarkoh ('The Phonebox', 1992) that took place in telephone boxes in London and Liverpool.

She served as a member of the programme group at Waygood Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne for three years.
