Our cutting-edge BSc Psychology programme focuses on the application of psychology and neuroscience to critical contemporary issues, from health and wellbeing to arts, culture and technology. Skill development is at the heart of our programmes. Our undergraduate research methods training and personal and professional development is seamlessly integrated into themed module blocks, with assessments from practical mini-projects and oral presentations, to writing policy briefs and responding to case studies. Across our courses, you will build public speaking, presentation, and writing skills, producing everything from academic essays to popular science articles and poster presentations.
You will also gain strong research training, learning the scientific method, critical thinking, research design, and statistical analysis you need to produce exceptional work and stand out in your field.
You will have access to a comprehensive suite of platforms and behavioural measures to support your psychological research. These include Qualtrics, Gorilla for online data collection, and a full test battery.
You’ll also benefit from state-of-the-art EEG (Electroencephalogram), Biosignals, and Virtual Reality laboratory facilities, which you can use for your dissertation and research projects.
Throughout the academic year, students and staff are inspired by internal and guest speakers in our seminar series, exploring cutting-edge research across all areas of psychology.
You will experience psychology in action through hands-on activities including Forest Schools, forensic investigations, and museum or gallery visits.

Research
REF 2021 recognised the significant quality and impact of the school's research in society. Overall, 82% of our research and 100% of our research impact was rated at 4* and 3* level, meaning quality that is world-leading or internationally excellent.
Our research output reflects the diverse specialisms of our staff and students. We pride ourselves on being current, critical, and creative in our research. Examples include:
- We host a world-leading Music, Mind and Brain research group working in music psychology, which also runs an internationally unique MSc programme in music psychology and neuroscience.
- Staff in the department specialise in the psychological and neuroscientific foundations of creativity, and the visual and performing arts, running a MSc programme on Psychology of the Arts, Neuroaesthetics and Creativity.
